Institutional headquarters of the Tarragona Port Authority (APT).

A unique building of great architectural value, which has shaped the appearance of the Mediterranean city of Tarragona, and which now once again boasts the imposing presence, originality, and design that was conceived by local architect Josep Maria Garreta in the 1970s.

Comprehensive rehabilitation

Work began in April 2019, under the direction of the joint venture formed by COMSA, SAU, and Gestión Ingeniería y Construcción de la Costa Dorada (GICSA). A comprehensive renovation of the building, with a floor area of 4,828 m², which houses the administrative and port services activities of the city of Tarragona.

The building required comprehensive renovation to bring it into line with new building regulations, and also to serve as an example of this:

Energy efficiency, livability, innovation, connectivity, and safety.

During these years, work has been carried out on the executive project, which was finally approved in 2018.
This project has updated and modernized the old building, while always safeguarding its architectural essence and respecting its great personality.

The façade

During the renovation of the building, we were responsible for manufacturing and installing the façades.

We prescribe high-transparency insulating glass with a high level of reflection, solar protection, and excellent thermal insulation.

Depending on the dimensions and location of each element, we work with two compositions in different thicknesses to ensure the best technical and aesthetic performance.

New life

Port services, offices, and public facilities for citizens.

The building houses the Port Authority headquarters on three of its floors.
The fifth floor is home to Port Control services, the technical and administrative services of Maritime Rescue, the APT’s maritime signals area, and the administrative area of the Pilots’ Corporation. There are also operational rooms for the Harbor Master’s Office and the Port Operations Department.

The remaining floors have been allocated to offices for third-party companies interested in this magnificent location. Finally, the ground floor allows the building to be opened up to the public with services such as an auditorium and a port interpretation center, presenting the history and evolution of the port infrastructure.

Tarragona

A city open to the sea, social, dynamic, efficient, and sustainable

A cross-cutting project that encompasses the restoration of this unique building, new uses for the current ATP offices, shops, offices, restaurants, cultural venues, etc., along with new gardens and green spaces that adorn the renovated coastal façade of this historic city.
